History of the Hotel-Restaurant Rhodannenberg

Gasthaus Seerüti, 1925The Rhodannenberg Hotel Restaurant has a tradition dating back many years. At the end of the 18th century, an inn with the name ”Seerüti” was first mentioned at this location.

Gasthaus Rhodannenberg, 1950
Around 1900, the whole building had to be moved back, as it had to make place for the dam, in order to build up the lake. 83 years later this building had served its time. It was rebuilt and moved away from the street. With its modern infrastructure, it satisfies today’s requirements.

The Klöntal valley was and is one of the most popular recreational areas of the canton of Glarus and in particular it attracts artists. Writers and painters began to move into the lovely valley during the 17th century. They wrote about and painted Klöntal lake with all its iridescent facets and reflections.

At that time, there were casinos and spas at the end of the lake. Affluent visitors were chauffeured there by horse and carriage.

In the book "Das Klöntal – Kleinod im Glarnerland" (The Klöntal Valley – A Gem in the Garner Countryside) you also learn that there also was an iron mine, charcoal burning places and a glass foundry, among other tidbits to be found in the bood. There was even an active ice production industry during winter from the frozen Klöntal lake.
