When Does the Sun Shine in Klöntal?

Our hotel is located directly on Lake Klöntal. From the terrace, you can enjoy views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Because Klöntal is a deeply enclosed valley, the sunlight is influenced not only by the season but also by the surrounding mountain slopes.

In brief

  • In summer: The best chances of sunshine are on open sections and on the southern side of Lake Klöntal.
  • On the southern side: The sun usually shines directly on the hiking trail for longer and more frequently.
  • On the northern side: The sun may disappear behind the mountains earlier in the morning and in the late afternoon.
  • In winter: The sun is low in the sky. Parts of Klöntal may remain in the shade for long periods.
  • Around midday: The chances of direct sunshine are generally best.
  • On our terrace: In spring, summer and autumn, there is direct sunshine at certain times of the day. In winter, the surrounding mountains may leave the terrace partly or completely in the shade.

The Southern and Northern Sides of Klöntal

The two sides of Klöntal are particularly different for hikers.

The Southern Side of Lake Klöntal

The southern side is generally the sunnier side. Especially in spring, summer and autumn, you are more likely to find longer periods of direct sunshine there.

If you are looking for as much sunshine as possible during a hike, the southern side is usually the better choice. However, high rock faces and mountain slopes can also create shade in some sections.

The Northern Side of Lake Klöntal

On the northern side, sunny and shaded sections alternate more frequently. The surrounding mountains can block direct sunlight earlier in the morning and in the late afternoon.

In winter, many areas on the northern side remain in the shade for longer. However, the trail offers beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountain landscape. In winter, hikers should expect cooler and partly shaded sections on the northern side.

When Is the Sun Strongest?

  • Spring: Mainly around midday. As spring progresses, the periods of direct sunshine become longer.
  • Summer: The best conditions for sunny hikes. The sun often shines longest on open sections and on the southern side.
  • Autumn: There are still good periods of sunshine, especially around midday. In the morning and evening, the mountains already cast longer shadows.
  • Winter: Direct sunshine is very limited. In December and January, some areas of Klöntal may remain completely in the shade for extended periods.

In summer, the sun rises early in the northeast and sets late in the northwest. However, due to the surrounding mountains, it is not visible in Klöntal at exactly these times. In the morning, it often appears later, and in the evening it disappears earlier behind the mountain slopes.

Sunshine Around Lake Klöntal

Lake Klöntal lies in a deeply enclosed valley. As a result, the sun may already be shining on one side of the valley while the opposite side is still in the shade. Sunny and shaded sections can also alternate over short distances along a hiking route.

For a hike around the lake, the following applies:

  • If you are looking for as much sunshine as possible, choose the southern side in spring, summer and autumn.
  • The best chances of direct sunshine are usually from late morning until early afternoon.
  • Even in summer, some sections of the trail remain in the shade.
  • In winter, the northern side may remain in the shade for particularly long periods.
  • Actual sunshine conditions also depend on clouds, fog, snow and the exact location.

Conclusion

In summer, the best chances of sunshine in Klöntal are on the southern side of Lake Klöntal and on open sections of the trail. The northern side is more frequently shaded, especially in the morning, late afternoon and during winter.

In December and January, the valley floor around Lake Klöntal may receive no direct sunlight for extended periods. However, this does not apply equally to every part of Klöntal. Depending on the location, elevation and orientation, some areas may still receive short periods of sunshine.

The terrace at Hotel Rhodannenberg may also receive sunshine at different times depending on the season and the surrounding mountain skyline. Our team will be happy to give guests up-to-date advice on the local sunshine conditions.
